Walking Football - What is it all about?
Walking Football sessions are held every Thursday morning 10.30 am to 11.45 am and Friday evenings 7.30 pm to 8.45 pm. See our promotional video here:video
The sessions take place on the 3G astro pitch, so no metal studs are allowed - either moulded studs or astro trainers are fine. The cost is £3 per session. Bring a drink with you.
Whilst open to all ages, walking football is particularly suited to those more mature people who would otherwise struggle to play football at normal pace. We have players aged 40 plus, and our current oldest player is 81! Thursdays tend to be a little lower impact than Fridays, as there are more retired people present, whereas Fridays see a lower age profile.
The rules are similar to 5 aside football except there is no running allowed. The ball is not allowed to go above crossbar height. Free kicks are awarded if someone does run. We also discourage physical contact such as barging and shoulder charging, and definitely no sliding tackles!
The sessions are very popular, but new people are very welcome to come along and join us. As well as the normal weekly sessions there are opportunities to play in tournaments against other teams, and we are joining the Somerset FA Walking Football League with our first match in March.
As one participant said:
"It's a good workout... - it's more challenging than one might think - especially not being able to run. It's good fun - come along."
Our walking football sessions are run by volunteers on behalf of the Friends of Clevedon Town. All proceeds from the sessions are used to support the Clevedon Town First Team playing budget - see their website here. The Everyone Active Gym kindly allow us use of the fabulous 3g pitch.
